Hamilton Mill Golf Course Review
by John Kim
Introduction: Hamilton Mill is Fred Couple's first signature golf course. The course is very scenic, and very fun...but don't be fooled. This course is a player's course. With a number of forced carries and some tight chutes, you will finish a round of golf here knowing you played some real golf. Bring a hot putter, these tight fairways have the largest greens I've ever seen.
Setting up your round: Call ahead for a tee time, Hamilton Mill hosts so many corporate outings that sometimes an entire morning can be booked far in advance. Corporate outings should contact the tournament coordinator at the course.
When you arrive: This course and clubhouse has it all to prepare you. A snack bar with sit down facilities as well, a large putting green, a chipping/bunker green, and a large 10 acre range.
Hole you will love: #4 is a par three that will add some laughs and big numbers to your group - an elevated tee box that is all carry over water to the green. Pin placement on the left side can really add some excitement. Hitting it short or left is immediate trouble, but hitting it long is a bunker and even the wrong side of the green can be a real challenging par. A really pretty hole, but it takes guts to knock it close.
Hole you won't: Hole #16 is a medium length par 4 that has a fairway so narrow, your group would have to walk single file up it. Real trouble is all the way down the left, and then there are fairway bunkers in the landing areas. The green is long and narrow so you have to be exact on your distances...as well as accurate.
Overview: You can't help but be impressed by this course and it's facilities. Always in top shape, this is one of my favorite courses. A real private country club setting for the daily fee golfer. Bring your 'A' game (or at least B+) and you will have a great time here. Large groups could not find a better setting for their outings. Individual golfers would be hard pressed to find a better course also. A real joy to play. I highly urge golfers to try this once, you'll be back.
